John earned his certificate in GIS from the University of Alaska Anchorage after retiring as a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force.

He currently works as a Research Associate for Colorado State University's Center for the Environmental Management of Military Lands. He provides GIS support to the Master Planning section of the U.S. Army Garrison Alaska.

While not deciphering the mysteries of local coordinate systems John enjoys spending time with those members of his family not away at school, and helping to control the wild salmon population of the Kenai River.
